The Ridge Dog Shop Experience
Call us at (804) 288-0605 to setup an appointment. If it’s your first visit please provide us with the dog’s shot records from your veterinarian. All pets must be current on vaccinations to ensure their safety and the safety of our facility. For your convenience we accept pet drop-offs between 7:00 am and 10:00 am Tuesday thru Saturday. We operate on a first come – first serve basis. However, we will do our very best to accommodate special circumstances.
When you arrive, a dog care specialist will greet you to discuss which services you would like. We individualize all haircuts and bathing based on the dog and owner’s wishes. While dogs are not being groomed they are provided comfortable crating condos furnished with towels and water bowls or tie-out if not crate trained. Complete your pet’s grooming with Bows, Polish, Bandanas and Cologne.
Why is Grooming Important?
It is necessary for the health and well being of your pet to receive a regular grooming regimen. A dog’s grooming needs depend on their breed and coat type. Also if they have any skin, ear or nail conditions that require specialized treatment. While our dogs are capable of minimal care on their own using their tongue, teeth and nails, they are unable to manage matting and those hard to reach places. A dog’s skin cannot breathe properly with tangled and matted hair and if their nails get too long they have trouble walking.
Another important fact is a professional dog groomer can spot trouble when working with your dog. With our experience we can recognize skin issues, lumps, eye irritations, ear problems and even insect bites that can lead to much larger problems down the road. If there is anything out of the ordinary with a dog that we care for, the owner is notified right away.
We also recommend brushing your dog between grooming, especially if they enjoy it. This has several advantages. It increases your pets well being by preventing matting and excessive shedding. Brushing strengthens the bond you have with your pet. It also helps to familiarize them with grooming tools and generally being handled so they feel more confident when they come to us. We are happy to show our customers how to properly brush and comb their dogs.
